We have some
exciting news to share!
Remember
Dorey? She is that cute little girl that
arrived February 27th from Texas.
Dorey is one of
the heartworm cases that we asked for help with. We needed more foster homes to save 4 sweet
lives that needed heartworm treatment and Dorey was one of them. Dorey’s foster mom thankfully signed up to be
a foster with Good Karma and we were able to bring her here for her lifesaving
treatment.
At Dorey’s first
vet visit, one of our partner vets believed Dorey may be pregnant. It was hard to determine exactly though
because she was so small and at the time, if there were babies, they were
extremely small too. It was determined
that an x-ray at that time would not show much if anything. So we scheduled another appointment several
weeks out and Dorey returned to her foster home to be spoiled and loved.
As time went on,
her belly grew.
X-rays confirmed
it and it also confirmed that we will probably have babies here in the next 10
days!
So now we are
busy. Foster mom took Dorey home to rest
her up and start to give her more food to get ready to nurse. Lisa, our director headed home to get a
whelping room set up at her house. Dorey
will whelp and stay at Lisa’s house with her babies until they are 8 weeks
old. Then Dorey will head back to her
foster’s home to do her heartworm treatment and get ready to be adopted.
Puppies will be
ready for adoption at about 12 weeks. We
will share a baby cam with you as well as many pictures along the way. Please send all good thoughts Dorey’s
way. We will make sure she and her
babies have the best care during this process.
If you would
like to help us get ready for the babies, please see our wish list http://a.co/dv5yfO9
