Rescue is a Business

Rescue is something that is tied to our hearts.  We love these dogs, these sweet souls, these amazing animals that become completely devoted to us.

Rescue is fun.  When people think of rescue, they think of it as spending time with dogs. You get to cuddle with dogs.  It is puppy play time.  This is part of it, but it is so much more.

Rescue is work.  It is comforting a scared dog.  Being patient until the dog learns to trust.  Training them to “potty outside”.  Getting them used to a kennel.  Teaching a dog to have manners to make them a great pet.

Rescue is about getting a dog healthy; and Good Karma focuses on medical AND emotional health of our animals.  Many dogs come in with various ailments.  Some are common and easily treatable.  Others need months of medical or behavioral care to be healthy.  We are their caretakers in this process.

Rescue is a business.  All of our work is not cheap.  In 2017, Good Karma spent an average of $437 on every dog in our rescue. We depend on donations and fundraisers to sustain our operations.  2018 has been REALLY DIFFICULT so far!  We have taken in medical cases like always, but we have also had some surprise medical needs that were discovered once we got the dogs to one of our partner vets.   We also have had some emergencies.

Look at Nixie.  This sweet girl had been in rescue many months when she suddenly wasn’t feeling well.  It was discovered she had gotten into something and she needed emergency surgery to live.  $6000 was the cost to save her life.  When Good Karma takes in a dog, we promise to love them and take care of them.

Look at these pups..these are just some of the dogs we have treated or are currently treating for Heartworm… $800+ each dog.

Look at sweet Kiwi.  At 8 years old, she needed a dental cleaning.  This has turned into two separate surgeries and thousands of dollars, so she can be pain free and eat normally.

Good Karma believes that vetting is an important part of rescue.  We promise our dogs will get what they need.  It is a business, because we need to pay for these bills and fund our operations.  We are thankful for the help and support we get from YOU to keep our business going.  We promise that for as long as you support us, we will continue to save more dogs like these.
