Intake Day

**Please note: none of these dogs are available for adoption yet.  They need to settle in and complete their vetting.  They will be available as soon as we’ve made sure they are healthy!
Intake days are some of our FAVORITE days in rescue.  We love adoption days too… but intake day is the day they made it!  The dogs are no longer living on concrete floors, their name isn’t next to a number of how many days they have left until they are put down, no more staring out a cage, waiting to be noticed.  At intake, they are greeted by foster parents and volunteers that are waiting to love them and show them how good life will be!

Here are some of the dogs arriving on Saturday after a 21-hour ride from Texas:
After we walk them and give them water, they get fitted with a collar and leash and are checked out quickly by staff before they are off to their foster homes! There, they will be treated with kindness, patience, and lots of love.  They are given soft spots to sleep, and plenty of places to play and relax.  We don’t allow our dogs to go ANYWHERE for at least 10 days, except for the veterinarian. This is our shutdown period where we make sure that the new dogs’ needs are being respected. They’ve been through a lot!

Fostering isn’t always easy, especially the first couple of days.  We practice slow introductions with our resident dogs, making sure that we are setting everyone up for success.  Sometimes, the dogs may have low appetites or upset stomachs. They need time to understand that they are SAFE and figure out the new place and the new routines.   However, they soon realize that life has changed and the big smiles and tail wags begin!

Here are some pictures of the dogs enjoying their new foster homes:

Meeting the resident dog!

We cannot forget that we left so many behind.  We always have to leave dogs behind.  Not because we want to, but because we have no more room.  There is such a need with so many dogs waiting for their own intake day.  Please consider opening your home to foster and give a dog their intake day.  Apply and learn more at http://www.goodkarmamn.org/fostering-faq-s--application.html
